Google Workspace new APIs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Google Workspace, the company’s suite of productivity tools that was formerly known as G Suite<\/strong>, is getting a substantial overhaul at this week’s Cloud Next conference. This includes a number of customer-facing capabilities, but perhaps more crucially, Google is taking use of this opportunity to expand Workspace with new connectors and developer tools that extend the overall Workspace ecosystem far beyond the borders of Google’s own services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s worth noting that Google already allowed for some integrations before. You\u2019re likely familiar with add-one in Gmail, for example. But now Google argues that it is taking its \u201cbiggest steps yet in making Google Workspace the most open and extensible platform for users,\u201d as the company described it in its press materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One method is to open up its smart chips \u2014 those linkages to other documents, people, and information (and their accompanying pop-ups when you hover over those links) that you may add to a Google Doc by typing “@” \u2014 to third-party businesses. Google recently announced partnerships with AODocs, Atlassian, Asana, Figma, Miro, and Tableau, all of which are already developing integrations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A set of APIs for both Chat and Meet is also new, allowing third-party developers to add services like beginning or initiating meetings from their apps. The launch partners are Asana and LumApps. These additional APIs, along with the others listed below, will be accessible in early 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Meet add-on SDK is also available, allowing developers to integrate their apps directly into Meet. Figma, for example, will enable teams to work on designs in this manner, and FigJam will bring its collaborative whiteboard to Meet in this manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google is announcing a new integration with AppSheet for individuals who wish to develop their own integrations, allowing anyone to utilise the Google no-code tool to build integrations with Google Chat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
